Spring Update

2007-08 has been a busy year! I am completing my first year as Chair of the Graduate Council and my second year as Chair of the Graduate Nursing Curriculum Committee. Both have been busy but a good way to work with other departments and get to know more faculty.

In November I traveled with a colleague from CSS and a colleague from SMDC to Scottsdale, Arizona for a Nurse Faculty-Nurse Executive Summit. We were able to pull together a clinical partnership model for CNS students to pilot during the 07-08 school year.

  • The January issue of Computers Informatics Nursing Plus included a paper I wrote on the use of the academic electronic health record in nursing curricula and a brief history of the ATHENS project.
  • In March, I presented both a poster and a podium presentation at the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists' conference in Atlanta, GA. It is always and excellent conference to attend and a great way to network with other CNS faculty and CNSs in practice. A fairly large group from Minnesota was there and I was able to network with them throughout the 4 days.
  • I am currently finishing my final two courses for a certificate in Nursing Informatics--an area I have been interested in for quite a while. (I recently found a book on the topic I bought in the early 1990s--boy have things changed!)
I am looking forward to a busy summer--mostly to spend time at the cabin, re-work some of my courses, and to do attend and present at the International Merlot conference in Minneapolis, MN.

The other highlight of the summer will be to attend FinnFest--held in Duluth this year! Tom and I hope to spend considerable time researching Finnish culture and travel in order to prepare for the summer of 2009. Our plan is to attend the International Nursing Informatics Congress in Helsinki, Finland!
